Artist statement

Artist Statement

I love art. What can I say? It's the best thing that has ever happened to me. The visual arts class of 2010 made a lot of improvements over the past four years including me. My pieces are all about a moment in my life that made me see who I am as a person and artist . I especially want to point out one of my collections that I dedicated to my grandmother, a beautiful and amazing person that I will never forget.

Through my experience, I have learned that art is my communication tool. I learned and gained a lot of confidence in the fourth year of my high school experience. I also gained a lot of artistic knowledge and skill and I was able to apply many of the artistic values that are the foundation of this art school, Boston Arts Academy.

I was able to quickly pick my idea about what I wanted my independent project to be about. I was taking images from different points of view and changing the lighting so I could change the way the image looks. These themes come from people I love and from a moment and experience in my life that have haunted me or made me happy and proud to be who I am.

I created my pictures by using composition, perspective and texture, value, contrast, and other elements to my advantage. My inspiration was my niece, my grandmother as well as my family and myself; I have experienced the worst out of my life and through these experiences I present to you my life, inspiration and passion. I hope to achieve happiness and strength through the artwork that I share with my community. What I love to do is photography--it is my life, and who I am.
